Anita Lerek is President of Advocate Placement Ltd. She is a pioneer of legal recruiting in Canada, having started building Advocate Placement in 1986. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1981, she was engaged in private practice until 1991 in employment law and trademarks. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Anita worked as a community college teacher, a book editor, and a literary agent. She has an M.A. in Sociology. Anita has dedicated herself to the goal of bringing informed hiring decisions to legal workplaces through embedding her practice of recruitment in the current talent-management body of knowledge. She believes that recruitment is retention. At the core of Anita’s practice is a set of values, namely, smarts, caring, connecting and belonging. Her organization has provided career strategic advice to lawyers since 2005.

She has been the chair of the Ontario Bar Association, Law Practice Management Section, and a long-time member of the executive of a corporate counsel association. Anita has a strong attachment to history, especially Holocaust and human rights studies. She is a published poet; art and jazz are close to her heart. She is married to an archivist, and has a child who is suddenly an adult and an accountant.
